TORONTO - CANADA’S VIBRANT CITY BY THE LAKE

Toronto is a fantastic destination combining a buzzing city atmosphere with culture, food, shopping, sports, entertainment and spectacular waterfront views.

WHY VISIT TORONTO?

See the CN Tower - Take in incredible views across Toronto and Lake Ontario from one of Canada’s most recognisable landmarks. Treat yourself and your loved ones with fine dining from the 360° revolving restaurant.

Explore the Waterfront - Enjoy a stroll along the lake, visit the harbour and take in the impressive city skyline.

Discover Toronto’s neighbourhoods - From colourful Kensington Market to the historic Distillery District, there’s plenty of character to explore.

Shop until you drop - From major shopping centres to independent boutiques and vibrant markets, there’s something for every shopper.

Enjoy the food scene - Toronto’s multicultural population means an incredible choice of international cuisine, alongside classic Canadian favourites.

Experience Canadian sport - Catch the atmosphere at a Toronto Maple Leafs hockey game, Toronto Raptors basketball game or Toronto Blue Jays baseball game.

Escape the city - Toronto Islands offer beaches, parks and fantastic views back towards the skyline.

Five main options for getting from Toronto airport to downtown:

UP Express train: $12.35 / 25 minutes / Most reliable, no traffic.

Taxi: $50–$60 / 25–45 min depending on traffic / Most flexible.

Uber/Lyft: $35–$60 / 25–45 min depending on traffic / Slightly cheaper than taxi.

TTC bus 900 + subway: $3.30 / 60–75 min / Cheapest but slowest.

Limo / Town Car: $80–$120 / 30–45 min / Premium service.

NIAGARA FALLS

One of the biggest advantages of visiting Toronto is that you can easily combine your city break with a visit to the spectacular Niagara Falls.

Located around 130 km from downtown Toronto, Niagara Falls can be visited as a day trip, although staying overnight gives you more time to experience the area.

What can you do at Niagara Falls?

Get close to the Falls - Take a boat cruise for an unforgettable view from the water. Boats go into the mist produced by the Horseshoe Falls. Want an adrenaline rush? Zipline down into the gorge (Canadian side). Visit the falls at night to see the illuminations and fireworks.

Experience the Falls from different viewpoints - See the enormous Horseshoe Falls, American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls from various observation points.

See the Falls illuminated - After dark, the Falls are lit up, creating a spectacular evening experience.

Don't forget your camera! - Niagara Falls is one of those places that really has to be seen in person.

Visit the attractions, restaurants and entertainments on Clifton Hill, making it easy to spend a full day exploring. Save money by purchasing a Clifton Hill fun pass.

Explore NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE – Combine your visit with this charming historic town, known for its architecture, shops, restaurants and surrounding wineries.

OUR TIP: If your schedule allows, consider spending 2-3 nights in Toronto and adding 1-2 nights around Niagara Falls. This gives you time to enjoy Toronto without rushing and experience Niagara after the day-trippers have left.

VISA & ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

For British citizens travelling by air for a holiday, Canada is generally visa-exempt, but you must have a valid passport and an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) before boarding your flight.

The eTA currently costs CAN$7 and must be obtained before travelling. Always check the latest Canadian Government requirements before booking and travelling, as entry requirements can change.

MONEY & EXCHANGE RATE

Canada uses the Canadian Dollar (CAD).

As an example:

£1 ≈ C$1.89

So approximately:

£50 ≈ C$94.50

£100 ≈ C$189

Exchange rates change regularly, and the rate you receive from your bank or card provider may be different.

FROM THE UK TO CANADA

Toronto is served by direct flights from the UK, making it an excellent option for a Canadian city break and an ideal starting point for exploring more of Ontario.

At August 2026, British Airways fly direct from London Heathrow (LHR) to Toronto Pearson (YYZ)
